You were always taught to save for a rainy day, so why buy new when you can get a refurbished laptop which has the same features at a lower price? |
| |
| |
You might have come across the word "refurbished" or "recertified" before, but I’ll give you a little refresher course on the facts and the myths. |

What is a refurbished laptop? |
| |
| |
Refurbished laptops are laptops that are sent back to the factory by customers. Many of these customers just decided to return their laptop after they opened the box. Who knows what they are thinking? There might be nothing wrong with them at all. These laptops will then be inspected, restored to original specifications, tested, and repackaged for resale. Many even come with warranty as determined by the manufacturer.

Is refurbished laptop right for me? |

The advantage of buying a refurbished laptop is you can get a “new” laptop for a price that’s up to thirty percent lower than the original price. In my opinion, I think that refurbished laptops may even be better than new laptops because they have had to pass a more detailed examination. If there were any problems, they are fixed by the time the customer buys them. Not a bad deal.

As with any purchase, there can be problems. Some refurbished laptops will not have some basic applications that you may need: e-mail programs, word processing, and personal finance. Some refurbished laptops even come without an operating system (OS). When you’re buying these laptops, you will want to double check the features carefully.

The laptop battery is another thing to consider when buying refurnished laptops because most batteries will only function for a few years. If you end up purchasing a laptop that is older than three years, you will probably end up replacing the battery.
| |
| |
But when you’re on a budget, just want to save a few dollars, and don’t mind using a refurbished laptop, buying a refurbished laptop is a great route to take to get the best deal for the lowest price. |
| |
| |
But only buy a refurbished laptop that is less than two years old. |
| |
| |
Sometimes laptops are marked "refurbished" for reasons other than they were returned to factories by customers, for example, overstocked laptops. Merchants are in a hurry to sell these laptops, so they often mark these laptops as ‘refurbished’ to justify the low prices. |
