On this page, I will try to describe some of the popular laptop processors of these two brands so that you can choose wisely when you buy your laptop.

Intel Processors

• Centrino Duo

	Also know as :	Sonoma
	Battery life :	below average
	Price :	below average affordability
	Performance :	This processor is quite impressive in terms of multi-tasking, allows for easy game play and multimedia applications as well as performing at a low heat and quietly.
	Bottom line :	While it seems that this processor could be better, it certainly outperforms many of its competitions, though it’s a better choice for a laptop that remains on your desktop.

• Pentium M (Centrino)

	Also know as :	Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) Pentium M, Low Voltage (LV) Pentium M, Pentium M
	Battery life :	good to great, higher on older models
	Price :	very high price
	Performance :	This is the best of the best, known for its superior processing capability with small power consumption and effective heat dissipation, though newer models are a bit less effective with heat.
	Bottom line :	If you’re looking for the best of the best, and you’re interested in gaming and multimedia, spend the money to get this Pentium.

• Celeron M

	Also know as :	Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) Celeron M, Celeron M
	Battery life :	battery life is average
	Price :	the price is quite reasonable and affordable
	Performance :	This processor will allow you to perform most tasks without trouble, but it’s not the best gaming or multimedia processor.
	Bottom line :	The lesser power management might be a problem for some, as it will lessen the overall battery life, but for the price, this is a great processor for those that don’t want to spend a lot of money.

• Pentium 4 Mobile

	Also know as :	Mobile Pentium 4 Supporting Hyper-Threading (H/T), Mobile Pentium 4
	Battery life :	battery life is below average
	Price :	the price is average
	Performance :	In terms of multimedia and gaming, you can do a lot with the Pentium 4 Mobile processor. It can handle large amounts of data as well as concurrent tasks. However, this processor can become quite hot as well as being heavier than most processors – a problem when you have a laptop.
	Bottom line :	If you’re planning on using your laptop primarily as a desktop, this is certainly worth the money. However, the battery life is horrible, so you will need to stay plugged in most of the time.

AMD Processors

• Turion 64 X2

	Also know as :	Acer TravelMate 3000, Compaq v3000z
	Battery life :	above average
	Price :	average
	Performance :	Average performance for both gaming and media applications make this a good choice for the average computer user, but not for anyone that wants the high functionality of a faster processor.
	Bottom line :	For the everyday computer user, the Turion 64 X2 is a good processor for basic needs, though it seems that there are still some improvements that could be made.

• Turion 64

	Also know as :	64 ML Series, Turion 64 MT Series (Low Wattage)
	Battery life :	average
	Price :	average
	Performance :	Gamers will find that this processor is adequate for many games, but for newer software, it might not be sufficient. Multimedia tasks are also below average, though many will find them adequate.
	Bottom line :	Thought advertised as a budget version of the Pentium M, this processor doesn’t quite deliver on its promises. However, if you’re looking for a basic laptop processor, this can handle most programs without problem.

• Sempron

	Also know as :	Mobile Sempron for Full-Size Notebooks, Mobile Sempron for Thin and Light Notebooks
	Battery life :	about average
	Price :	above average for affordability
	Performance :	Both gaming and media applications were found to run at substandard levels for professional work and serious gamers.
	Bottom line :	When you want a budget processor with just enough power for everyday applications, the Sempron will work out just fine. However, this is really only a good choice for those that are more concerned about budget than about performance.

• Athlon 64

	Also know as :	Mobile Athlon 64 for DTR, Mobile Athlon 64
	Battery life :	battery life is slightly below average
	Price :	the price is average
	Performance :	In terms of performance, this processor ranks quite high with gaming and other media tasks. These notebooks work quite well to handle heat output while also maintaining a lighter weight, though shorter battery life.
	Bottom line :	If you want to stay unplugged for long periods of time, this might not be the processor for you. However, serious gamers will enjoy the moderate price for outstanding performance.
